Cakebread's 60 Second Cinema || Episode 01

As a way for me to experiment with new filming techniques — and honestly, as a great excuse to just get out there capturing cool visuals — I came up with the idea for Cakebread’s 60 Second Cinema.

The concept is simple: focus on beautiful, dynamic shots, keep it to a tight 60-second runtime, and feature people who are genuinely passionate about something — whether it’s a sport, a creative pursuit, or a unique business. It’s all about storytelling through visuals, distilled down to an intense, cinematic minute.

To kick things off and prove the concept, the incredibly talented Jacob Davies jumped on board and filmed me riding BMX at one of our local skateparks. It was a great opportunity to test how much we could communicate visually in just a minute.

We arrived at the skatepark by 6:30am to catch that soft, golden-hour light — perfect for creating natural contrast and depth. With no one else around, we had full freedom to experiment. We played with a variety of frame rates and shutter speeds for different speed effects along with getting to try out my new Manfrotto ONE tripod.

Can you spot any of the techniques we used in the final cut?

And more importantly — do you know someone who’s insanely passionate about a sport, hobby, or craft? Someone who would be perfect for a future 60 Second Cinema feature? I’d love to hear about them!
