Filming and climbing || Portland

ree

Portland has got to be one of my favourite places to film at the moment. With the background of cliffs, crashing sea agains the rocks and seagulls swimming around, it makes for some pretty cool footage. This day was no exception.

As I continue to practise filming whilst climbing, Gaz took me out to Portland to film his attempt at pushing his lead sport climbing grade up to a 7a on the Accelerator.

Thankfully, at the top of the Accelerator, there's some big boulders that we were able to set my anchor for my ropes to allow me to ascend and descend to capture Gaz's attempts.

After a quick interview to capture Gaz talking about what makes the Accelerator hard, we got stuck in. It was a glorious day for it and with each failed attempt, we got to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding scenery. We even got a special wave of encouragement from a seal swimming by!

As I do more of this type of filming, I find I'm getting more comfortable on the ropes. I'm also trying to adapt the way I strap my camera to myself each time KI head out to practise filming and climbing so that I can find the most efficient way to carry it.

After a whole heap of attempts through the day, Gaz was beaten. Not forever, but the exertion of the Accelerator had taken it's toll and the enjoyment was starting to fade. So, we packed up our gear, took one last glance across the ocean and headed back up the track to the car with fresh hope for filming again in the future and capturing the climb to it's completion so Gaz can tick a 7a off his list!
